Diversity Statement
Diversity - I think that diversity is what gives meaning to everyone and everything in the world. Otherwise, it’s all the same. I was blessed to be born in India where you can witness diversity in each and every aspect and corner from food, language, culture literally everything. But at the same time, I have also witnessed the conflicts that arise due to diversity and how people expect others to accept or get imposed on someone's identity. It all together taught me a lesson on how to value and respect everyone I come across in this world.
But it was a more shocking experience when I travelled to the U.S for master’s. I observed that even in a country like the USA, there are many who are racist, homophobic, and carry a lot of hatred among each other even towards autistic or simple quiet people . It was a big dent in my expectations and belief towards this place. The very act or way of thinking to dislike someone for a Presumed meaningless misconception and making people as they are different types of being is a creation of “unwanted diversity”.
Equity - I do not believe that equity is true or it exists in the form we believe. Because if it did, it takes away the problems created from diversity but also takes away the charm and beauty brought by the diversity. But it is a massive challenge to establish equality among ourselves. And when it comes to the challenges due to inequality, I prefer to believe that I am never lacking and have everything I need to achieve my goals. I recognize that the life I live is someone else’s dream, and for this, I am deeply grateful to my parents, family, friends, teachers, and homeland for shaping who I am today and always.
Inclusion - Inclusion is what any being should adopt and believe in protecting all the diversity in the world. Especially for those who are struggling.
And an educational institution is where I like to be involved, in this current state of the world. Not only because of the opportunity to learn and exchange huge amounts of diversified knowledge in one place, but it is also an opportunity to be naive and make mistakes, but still keep a pure and non-harmful mindset. Because the world out there is after such rapid & ruthless progress, it feels inappropriate to call it progress anymore.
The biggest harm of the ongoing progress is not caring about all the diversity on this planet. Not only referring to people born in villages or backward classes but everyone is losing the hope that they can do something or live with what they have. That is the biggest misfortune that can happen to humanity. They are losing faith in their land, their community, their culture, their language, their own beliefs, which is more hazardous than any aspect of nature to humanity. And it is a pity that one wants to live in this world for the purpose of changing it.
So for all these reasons, everyone has to be very very… careful about each step we take, instead of quoting from Bhagavath Geetha like Oppenheimer. And please don't think that it would have been someone else if not Oppenheimer, that is the whole point, we all have to be aware and conscious of our very own decisions.
